The Kingdom of Morocco is preparing , as a major area for birds of prey, to launch a massive land-based environmental strategy to preserve this species of birds through the joint collaboration of the research team concerned with protection of the birds in Morocco, (Gribom- Bird life, Morocco), the International Union for Conservation of Nature in the Mediterranean followed up the International Union for the Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources (IUCN) and legation of the United Nations High Commissioner for Water, Forests and Desertification.
The strategy of the two largest global organizations seeks to preserve more than 40 species of birds of prey.Morocco is considered a major area of predatory birds, since it hosts not only a large number of these species, but also as part of the migration route of those birds and a vital area for many birds of prey. All environmental researches by local and international institutions have confirmed that the case of migratory birds of prey is particularly tenuous because of their annual migration, which is often long and difficult, between breeding areas and winter regions. Especially that during this migration , these birds face different threats such as collisions with overhead structures, and electric shock on the power lines.
The three parties mentioned above had organized a workshop to develop that strategy for the conservation of predatory birds in Morocco from 19 to 20 April, 2017,with the participation of the most important civil society organizations concerned with the preservation of the environment and wildlife, headed by members of the IUCN committees and members of local Non-Governmental Organisations( NGOs) , ornithology group ( GOMAC) in Morocco, in addition to the representatives of the Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals (CMS) and experts to re-introduce predatory birds of "Andalusia environment" Spain.
Seven months ago the workshop requested to complete a road map for the development of the first version of the strategy for the conservation of predatory birds in Morocco, to become part of the brief of understanding for the Conservation of Migratory birds of prey in Africa and Eurasia, to become a multi-species action plan for the conservation of Eurasian Eagles.
